Joy
God definitely has a quirky sense of humor. Today is my birthday—a day that should be replete with examples of joy… but no, today I spent the day on the couch trying to shake the flu. I feel like I’ve been run over by a freight train.
Yet that does not change the fact that my word for the day is joy.
In full disclosure, I did not take today’s photo. I asked my wife (a newly professional studio photographer) to take this particular shot.
Three times a year, we have standing congregational meetings. Before each of these, we do something very Lutheran. We each bring a dish to share.
Why do we do this? Certainly it is not because it is a huge cost savings (we still provide the food). It’s not because it’s easier than cooking at home (we need to transport it). It is because of the joy we share when we share a meal.
