Advent 26 – Child

Thought I would share something I noticed about the Christmas narrative that I hadn’t caught before.

While the imagery of the heavenly host appearing to the shepherds on the outskirts of town might seem hard to swallow… While the tranquil imagery of the barn delivery so often shared may seem unrealistic…

Last night I realized that the most unlikely aspect of the story is that Mary laid Jesus in a manger. That is a DAD thing to do.  I imagine the dialog going to be more like:

J: Here, let me take him for you.  You need to rest.
M: Thank you.

M:  WAIT.. WHAT… Where are you putting him???
M:  You know what that’s used for, don’t you?  ANIMALS EAT there.

J: So, it works.  It’s the right size.  It’s sturdy.

M: ANIMALS EAT there!  Give him back to me.

J: I thought it was a good idea.

And with that, I wrap up my Advent 2021 photo-a-day discipline. As always, I never know where this journey will take me. I had days of being deep. I had days of being silly. I had days where I simply had to push the through exercise. Looking back, it was quite a ride—spanning many emotional states.

If you’ve been following along and you’re not me, I hope you have enjoyed the ride as much as I have. God bless. I hope you have had a Merry Christmas, and I wish you a blessed 2022.
