Eternity
Normally when we think about the concept of eternity, we focus (no pun intended) on time. The task is daunting.
Our individual lives are but a blink in the eye of all humanity…
and humanity is but a blink in the eye of all life on Earth…
and life on Earth is but a blink in the eye of Earth’s geologic history…
and our solar system is young within the history of the cosmos…
We could choose to focus instead on the eternity of space. But that task is no less daunting.
Our homes are small relative to our communities…
which are small relative to our cities… states… nations… continents…
to our planets… solar systems… galaxies…
And in the middle of all of this, we dare to hope that our lives have meaning.
We look toward the Christmas miracle in which God himself bends down to say,
“YES! You do, very much, matter.”
