Lord Baden-Powell on Coeducation

96. The same principles of organization and training [of the Boy Scout Movement] apply to the girls in the Girl Guide Movement.  The one branch helps the other, both in the family and in the public esteem.  Their co-operation foreshadows a better form of coeducation, since it works on the pupils through common interests.

97. I am in favor [of joint camping and hiking of Rovers and Rangers] under the conditions suggested.  In the Camping Club (of which a number of Rovers and Rangers are members) camping under similar conditions has been the fashion for several years, with nothing but good results.

Similarly, rambling clubs now exist in most large centers and organize their expeditions in mixed parties.

This is all in accord with modern ideas now prevalent.

Personally, I think it all to the good, especially in our Movement, where Rovers and Rangers are sensible and self-respecting young peopler.

The Chief Guide concurs in this opinion.
