Utopian World

My 6th grade Utopian project.

Sometime last year I thought of something while I was trying to fall asleep. Yes, trying to fall asleep. This is why it takes me so long to fall asleep so often. It is when I tend to do some of my best thinking. Anyways, back to what I was thinking about. I was thinking about what my utopian society would be. In 6th grade we had a Utopian unit. We read many stories that take place in a utopian society, stories like; “The Lottery” and The Giver. All of them, to me, seem like very boring societies with everything being equal and the worst part is that the people really didn’t do their own thinking. I loved the stories and have a found a new favorite genre, but the societies were very boring. Yes, it does suck when nothing in life is working out and you are having a low point, but at the same time when everything is always going your way and your life seems perfect it is kind of boring. You really need a mix of storms and sunshine to lead a happy life, or at least I think so. It is during the time of storms that someone’s true character comes out. People are tested and it is then when their true strength comes out and where character is built.

With that being said, my perfect utopian world is pretty similar to our world now. The single difference is that when you have a decision in life, big or small, no matter what it will be all right in the end. You also know that when making a decision in the end everything will work out and you won’t have any regrets. That is not to say that you won’t have any bumps in the road or that there won’t be any difficulties, but in the end, everything will be good.

For a while I kept wishing for this world, but a few months ago I realized something. I realized that it really isn’t that hard to have a utopian world. All I have to do is to make the best of every situation, something that I have been working on. However, it is much easier said than done. At every major decision, which I have a lot of coming up, I just need to realize that with each decision there will be storms, but there will also be lots of sun and each option comes with loads of  unique opportunities. I also need to focus on what I have instead of wondering about what it would have been like if I went the other way. It is up to me to prioritize both the goods and the bad of each option to figure out which way I want to go. In addition, after deciding the path I need to focus on the task at hand; live in the moment and not worry about what life could have been.
